RoleSummary
Manage and oversee development of the Humanitarian programme and support functions to facilitate the implementation of the country strategy. Provide leadership, strategic direction, management and evaluation of all aspects of the programme, the Deputy Country Director also plays a key role in external representation, legal compliance, grant management, programme coordination and team leadership.
Project Overview
The purpose of Medair’s programme in Sudan is to save lives and alleviate human suffering amongst displaced people and vulnerable host communities. Medair’s programme provides support to people affected by conflict, disease and disaster by providing basic services including health, nutrition, WASH, shelter, cash and more.
Workplace & Conditions
Based in Port Sudan or Khartoum, Sudan, with trips to remote field sites where living and working conditions will likely be more basic.
Responsibilities:
· Programme Management: Assist in strategy and lead proposal development. Champion programme quality, oversee MEAL and partner management and ensure effective project implementation.
· External Representation: Support Country Director in representing Medair to external stakeholders (incl. humanitarian, community, authorities & donors).Actively participate in coordination fora.
· Security Management: Manage security in the Country Director’s absence. Support Project Coordinators to maintain security plans/ guidelines and talk through security decisions. Manage incidents as required.
· Financial Management: Maintain oversight of spending and grant management. Ensure appropriate compliance and controls are in place to mitigate risks of fraud or disallowances.
· Staff Management: Line manage assigned staff. Maintain and facilitate clear communication between departments. Support and develop the team to work together effectively, modelling Medair’s values.
Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:
· University degree. Post-graduate degree in the humanitarian sector desirable.
· Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written).
· Good numerical and report writings skills and worked with various institutional donors
· 3-5 years experience of managing a diverse team of technical &field operations, develop & support team
· At least one year of experience working in senior management roles with international humanitarian NGOs

· Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues
· Experience working in a volatile context, capacity to work under pressure & manage personal stress
· Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritizing and delegating as required
