Programme Analyst (Governance and Human Rights)

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with Bangladesh ever since its birth and through its remarkable journey from a war-ravaged economy to a middle-income country. It remains a catalyst in Bangladesh’s journey from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. UNDP assists in building institutions and helps strengthen institutional capacities through people-centric, pro-poor, inclusive and sustainable policy making and development governance.

Bangladesh is undergoing critical democratic transitions and governance reforms aimed at building more inclusive, transparent, and accountable institutions. In alignment with SDG 16, UNDP Bangladesh supports national efforts to strengthen public institutions, enhance civic participation, uphold the rule of law and human rights, and contribute to ongoing reform initiatives. This includes close collaboration with government ministries, the private sector, and civil society to promote effective governance systems that respond to citizen needs.

This assignment will support the Democratic Governance Cluster’s flagship initiatives on institutional reform, democratic accountability, electoral processes, civic dialogue, and legal empowerment. The selected International Youth UN Volunteer will contribute to advancing good governance through research, coordination, and engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, playing an active role in fostering inclusive policy development and supporting implementation of governance reform initiatives.

Under the direct supervision of Senior Governance Advisor, Democratic Governance Cluster, UNDP Bangladesh, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Programme and Research Support:

• Assist in programme planning and coordination of governance and reform initiatives.
• Contribute to drafting concept notes, briefing documents, activity summaries, and offi-cial correspondence.
• Support background research, policy review, and data analysis related to national affairs, civic participation, and public accountability.

2. Stakeholder Engagement:

• Assist in organizing consultations, dialogues, and capacity-building events with youth, civil society, and government stakeholders.
• Maintain stakeholder databases, follow-up trackers, and support reporting on engagement outcomes.

3. Visibility and Knowledge Management:

• Support content development for social media, newsletters, and blogs on governance issues.
• Assist with documentation of lessons learned, case studies, and success stories across initiatives.
• Ensure organized archiving of documents and multimedia materials in shared drives.

4. Learning and Innovation:

• Participate in internal strategy sessions and learning activities.
• Provide fresh ideas for youth engagement, civic innovation, and community outreach.
• Engage in team reflections and knowledge exchange with other UN Volunteers and staff.

5. Additional Tasks:

Carry out any other duties as may be required by the supervisor in line with the overall assignment objective.
