Mission and objectives
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Context
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Each year, the UNiTE Campaign focuses on a specific theme, calling on individuals and communities worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence.
In this context, UN Women, in cooperation with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, has established a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) to engage UN Volunteers in supporting UN Women’s efforts—particularly the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women and Girls (EVAWG) campaign—across Europe and Central Asia (ECA).
The selected national UN Community Volunteers will assist the UN Women team in Europe and Central Asia in the following areas:
Awareness, Advocacy, and Outreach: Supporting UN Women in designing and implementing online campaigns, and leveraging social media to amplify messages on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) in the context of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS)–Humanitarian Action (HA) agenda. In addition, the selected volunteers will engage in creative activism through art and community outreach, raising awareness and sharing powerful stories that promote gender equality and end gender-based violence.
