ABOUT YOU

We are hiring highly a motivated individual to join our Meteorology Branch Team as a Scientist (Meteorology). In this position, you will be responsible for promptly delivering weather information, forecasts, briefings, and other meteorological products to ensure that flight operations at the Main Operating Base or any other Operating Base are conducted safely and efficiently. To support operations around the clock and in multiple locations, you will work irregular shifts and adopt a flexible schedule. Your strong analytical skills will enable you to quickly determine the appropriate course of action in response to unexpected weather changes. By maintaining regular professional communication with various stakeholders, your work plays a crucial role in directly supporting mission success. Attention to detail and effective use of meteorological data and services are essential for maintaining safe flight operations.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements\:

  • University Degree in meteorology or related discipline and 2 years function related experience, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience;

  • Thorough knowledge of forecasting the weather;

  • Full understanding of meteorology as it applies to weather systems and understanding the development and forecasting of all weather systems;

  • Very good knowledge of radar systems and the propagation of radar beams;

  • Good knowledge of European military and civilian organizations systems and procedures;

  • Experience with using computer systems as they apply to meteorological data transfer and applications;

  • Thorough knowledge of weather satellite systems;

  • Very good knowledge in forecasting weather conditions for both short and long-range flying operations;

  • Formal education or vocational training in Space Weather (or willingness to undergo training);

  • A license as aeronautical radio operator (or willingness to undergo training);

  • Working knowledge of Automatic Data Processing (ADP) systems;

  • Good command of English (SLP 3.3.3.2.)

The following would be considered as an advantage\:

  • Experience in a military/international organization;

  • Education or training in computer programming / software development.

  • Any knowledge/qualification exceeding the level/scope of the essential requirements;

  • Knowledge of the Host Nation language (German) due to regular interaction with Host Nation services.

YOUR ROLE

Your core duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to\:

  • Providing of weather forecast briefings for all flying operations of the E-3A Component;

  • Producing weather warnings and contacting the required personnel in a timely manner to maintain safe operations;

  • Analyzing, assimilating and interpreting current atmospheric conditions and other meteorological products to prepare forecasts of expected weather conditions;

  • Maintaining a weather watch;

  • Providing of the required meteorological and designated/related atmospheric information to the E-3A Component ground and aircrew personnel;

  • Preparing of prognostic charts and forecasts for potentially worldwide operational support;

  • Providing climatologically data to E-3A Component personnel and management;

  • Producing reference and training material for office use;

  • Conducting and planning training for aircrew members;

  • Coordinating and maintaining liaison with other meteorological organizations to ensure weather support requirements are satisfied;

  • Providing and preparing information on Space Weather issues;

  • Participating in a Quality Management system in accordance with European and Host Nations regulations;

  • Developing procedures and computer programs to enhance the clarity, accuracy and usefulness of weather products;

  • Conducting meteorological, and geophysical studies and research; as it applies to E-3A Component operations.

YOUR TEAM

The Base Support Wing (SW) is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of all MOB support functions including the supervision of those functions covered in HN Support Agreements. The Air Traffic Control & Airfield Services Squadron directs and controls performance of subordinate Branches/Sections. It provides Air Traffic

Control Service, Meteorological Service, Fire-/Crash- and Rescue-Service, Ground Radar and Radio Maintenance Service. The Meteorology Branch forecasts weather, gives weather briefings, analyzes weather patterns and researches historical information.

CONTRACT

Serving civilian members of NATO will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.

Newly recruited staff will be initially offered a definite duration contract of three years. Thereafter, an indefinite duration contract might be offered.
