BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Atlanta office was established in 1979 and has resettled over 30,000 refugees from 67 countries into the Greater Atlanta area. Domestically, our 28 offices across the US ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF EVENTS MANAGEMENT INTERN WORK:
This position is located within the Resource Development Department, whose purpose is to establish and maintain strong, mutually beneficial connections between the community and the IRC Atlanta to garner monetary, in-kind and volunteer resources for our immigrant and survivor clients with various backgrounds and experiences. The Events Management Intern will work closely with the KSU AmeriCorps Events Coordination Associate towards these goals by focusing on community engagement through the lens of events coordination. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Events Coordination Associate in the planning and execution of events for IRC Atlanta
Assist with maintenance of events calendar, including event dates, walk-throughs, partner meetings, and pre- and post-event planning sessions
Develop content including, but not limited to, flyers, social media graphics, and slide decks for event materials
Assist in post-event evaluations, gather feedback, and contribute to improvement initiatives
Assist with other Resource Development activities as needed, including administrative duties and tasks
QUALIFICATIONS:
An interest in international and immigrant affairs
Effective communication and writing skills
Excellent organizational skills
Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects
A strong desire to help people and enthusiasm to work in a multi-cultural setting
Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
Prior experience in a non-profit setting is a plus
Must be able to comfortably lift boxes of donated clothing and household items up to 50 lbs.
Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications as well as experience using and entering data into electronic databases is beneficial
REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass a background check.
Must commit to 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months. Commitment through Spring 2026 semester preferred.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization.
This will be an in-person role. This role will report to the KSU AmeriCorps Events Coordination Associate.
The internship will be filled on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until November 28th, 2025, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first. Internship will begin the week of January 12th, 2026.
