Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Collaboration and Research Partnerships 1. Develops UNRWA’s Academic Partnership Framework, building collaborative links with universities and research institutions. 2. Facilitates joint research projects using UNRWA’s digital archives and anonymized operational data, ensuring compliance with Agency data protection and research ethics standards. 3. Identifies and synthesizes emerging global trends relevant to UNRWA’s mandate, including digital identity, social protection, humanitarian reform, and refugee well-being; provides proposals to translate data analyses and research findings into actionable insights. 4. Identifies and pursues opportunities for research funding and collaborative projects, in coordination with the Department of External Relations and Communications. 5. Represents UNRWA in academic and research forums and promotes partnerships that enhance knowledge generation, innovation, and visibility of the Agency’s evidence base. Learning, Knowledge Transfer and Dissemination 1. Designs and implements the Department’s Research and Learning Agenda, aligning it with the Agency’s protection, social policy, and digital transformation priorities. 2. Promotes a culture of learning and evidence-based practice at RSSD, at HQs, and Fields, through sessions, seminars, dissemination of research and analytical findings and other means as appropriate. 3. Organizes and facilitates seminars, webinars, and workshops linking operational lessons with academic and policy insights. 4. Supports the development of evidence-for-impact products, including briefs, infographics, and analytical reports for internal and external stakeholders. 5. Documents lessons learned, best practices, and innovative approaches in RSSD programming. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

A Ph.D. (or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Development Studies, Data Science, or a related field. At least eight years of progressively responsible experience in applied research, data analysis, or evidence-based policy in humanitarian or development settings, including experience in trend analysis, learning, and academic or policy partnerships. Experience in academic or research institutions, learning or knowledge management with an international organization. Experience analysing large-scale data systems (Desirable)

Languages

Excellent command of written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Additional Information

Remuneration will be set at 9,000.00 EUR per month.
