About this position

The Research Department (RES) is responsible for generating innovative ideas that support the strategic policy goals of the IDB and its member countries. It provides evidence-based inputs to support decision-making and development in the region and publishes its findings in leading academic journals. Within RES, the Behavioral Economics Group plays a key role in enhancing the IDB’s policy agenda and contributing to sustainable, equitable development across Latin America and the Caribbean through a behavioral approach.

RES is looking for a Behavioral Economics Consultant to join its Behavioral Economics Group. In this role, you will support projects that apply behavioral insights to improve decision-making and promote better outcomes through the development of effective interventions. Working across diverse areas focused on policy innovation, social impact and regional growth, you will contribute to behavioral interventions that enhance policy outcomes and help address key development challenges in the region.

The IDB’s Behavioral Economics Group is at the forefront of developing innovative solutions to enhance policy formulation and implementation in the region by leveraging behavioral science insights. By integrating evidence from economics, psychology, and social sciences, the group designs, implements, and tests interventions that aim to improve decision-making at the individual, organizational, and governmental levels.

What you’ll do

  • Participate in the design and implementation of behavioral interventions.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders to discuss the design, implementation, or evaluation of behavioral interventions.
  • Produce academic literature reviews on behavioral science topics.
  • Review and edit policy and technical documents.
  • Produce brief summaries of behavioral interventions for dissemination.
  • Evaluate research proposals and knowledge products.
  • Support training activities.
  • Contribute to the production of working paper(s), policy briefs and other knowledge products.

What you'll need

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. Master's in behavioral economics preferred.

•    Experience: At least 2 years of progressive experience in research, data analysis, and data management. 

•    Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

Requirements

Type of contract and duration

International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 36 months).
