This is a fixed-term appointment with an initial duration of 4 years. Depending upon performance and organisational needs, the appointment may be extended up to a possible maximum duration of 8 years. Any appointment to this position will begin no earlier than 1 January 2026.

Description

Strategy Officer, Strategy Coordination Division, Strategy Department, Directorate for Strategy, Legal and External Affairs.

Duties

Under the direct authority of the Head of the Strategy Coordination Division (SLE-SA), you will:  

  • be responsible for developing methodologies and processes for implementing the strategy of the organisation in accordance with ESA’s Long-Term Plan (LTP), ensuring that decisions and strategies support the organisation's mission and objectives;   
  • support liaising and establishing strategy coordination across ESA directorates; 
  • support the Head of Strategy Coordination with strategic analysis, evaluation, and evolution of ESA´s legal framework, administrative structures, programmes and financial planning as part of your strategy coordination responsibilities;
  • support monitoring of the Agency`s performance and the implementation of ESA Strategy 2040;
  • support the preparation of space-related background and strategic policy papers;
  • support internal and external reporting and the presentation of results and achievements.

Technical competencies

Knowledge of the ESA institutional framework, structures, programmes and policies, and of the European and international space sector
Understanding of the Agency's relationship with other space agencies, European institutions and other key partner organisations and institutions

Education

A master's in engineering or science is required for this post.

Additional requirements

An engineering or scientific background, as well as good knowledge of European space strategies and of the space sector is required, including broad knowledge of space programmes, policy development, performance monitoring and strategy implementation processes.

You should also have:

  • the ability to coordinate, drive performance, and foster cooperation within and across teams throughout the organisation;
  • demonstrated excellent leadership, relationship management and communication skills, both oral and written;
  • excellent cognitive, analytical, delegation, planning and organisational skills, with strong and proven result orientation;
  • the ability to anticipate problems, solve complex issues and relate situations to their context;
  • the ability to reach solution-oriented, pragmatic and timely decisions of a high standard and with integrity, as well as the ability to support others (team members, upper management and other stakeholders) in this process;
  • a good understanding of software development practices.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests.
