Your team
You will be part of the Positioning and Outreach Division in the Directorate Digital Euro. Our Directorate has a growing team of approximately 100 staff shaping the future of European payments and ensuring people across the euro area continue to have secure and convenient ways to pay, both in cash and digitally.

The Positioning and Outreach Division aims to foster public understanding of, and trust in, the digital euro and is responsible for the positioning and outreach strategy and plan.
In your role as a Communication Expert, you will be part either of the Engagement and Insights team or the Outreach team. The Engagement & Insights team is charged with shaping the narrative surrounding the digital euro project through strategy, research and internal coordination developing core content and messaging, managing web publishing and delivering insights and analytics on audience perceptions and campaign performance. The Outreach team drives public awareness through impactful information campaigns, media relations, and events that connect with consumers, merchants, and journalists, building understanding.
We direct clear, consistent and data-driven communication by developing core content and messaging, managing web publishing, and delivering insights and analytics on audience perceptions and campaign performance. We also support strategic planning, disinformation response and coordination across communication workstreams, ensuring that the Eurosystem speaks with one voice, working closely with the Eurosystem via a dedicated communication work group of representatives from euro area national central banks.

Your role
As one of our two new Communication Experts, focusing primarily on either campaigns management or strategy, you will:
Communication campaigns
- design, plan and manage multi-channel information campaigns for B2B audiences;
- oversee campaign implementation, coordinating with internal teams, national central banks and external agencies;
- manage timelines, deliverables and campaign budgets in coordination with external communication agencies;
- monitor campaign performance, analyse results and propose adjustments to enhance impact;
- ensure that all campaign materials align with the overall communication strategy and ECB standards.
Communication strategy
- develop a comprehensive strategy to engage merchants and businesses on the digital euro;
- identify audience segments, key messages and channels for targeted communication;
- coordinate with national central banks, internal teams and external partners to ensure a consistent approach across the Eurosystem;
- provide guidance for campaigns, events and content tailored to different audiences;
- monitor trends and stakeholder feedback to adapt and refine the communication strategy over time.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
- a master’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, business or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
- in addition to the above, at least four years’ professional experience in B2B communication;
- proven experience with stakeholder outreach or public affairs;
- strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with a proven ability to design and implement communication strategies;
- knowledge of digital campaign tools, analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs);
- experience in managing projects and relationships with high-level stakeholders, ideally in a complex, multi-country environment;
- excellent drafting and presentation skills in English;
- an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Desired:
- proven experience in working with creative agencies and managing deliverables and timelines;
- an understanding of European payments and merchant acceptance ecosystems;
- experience in running information campaigns at an EU or multinational level.

The contracts offered will be fixed-term, the appointment being until 31 March 2028.
Temporary appointments may be extended or made permanent subject to organisational needs and budgetary constraints. This may result in a staff member with a non-convertible fixed-term contract being offered a convertible contract in accordance with the ECB Conditions of Employment.
