Working context:

Pemba Island, part of the Zanzibar Archipelago, is a predominantly rural and culturally conservative environment with limited infrastructure, reduced availability of services and few recreational spaces. Mobility across the island can be challenging due to road conditions and weather patterns. WeWorld operates in this context through the Kijani Pemba project, focusing on environmental sustainability, green business development, waste management, community engagement and the rehabilitation of public spaces. The work requires interaction with local authorities, community groups, women’s and youth associations, as well as regular field visits in remote areas.


Purpose of the Role

The Project Officer provides operational, administrative and field support to activities within the Kijani Pemba Project, ensuring smooth implementation, coordination with stakeholders and regular reporting to the Line Manager. The position contributes to field operations, monitoring, documentation and administrative support under the supervision of the Line Manager, with particular attention to hygiene promotion, school and community WASH activities, waste management practices, community awareness campaigns and coordination with local authorities, partners and community structures.


MAIN FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Project Support

•    Supporting day-to-day implementation of activities under the Kijani Pemba Project according to approved plans and schedules, including actions related to environmental sustainability, economic empowerment, WASH actions and waste management.

•    Supporting in supervising field activities and coordinating tasks among team members, ensuring alignment with project methodologies and sustainability principles.

•      Supporting in supervising field WASH activities and coordinating tasks among team members, ensuring alignment with project methodologies and WASH standards.

•      Participating in the organization of weekly and monthly meetings, trainings and field visits with schools, health facilities, partners, community groups and local authorities.

•    Supporting engagement with community structures, women’s and youth groups, local institutions and relevant stakeholders involved in WASH interventions within the Kijani Pemba Project.

•    Acting as a liaison between community members, partners and project teams to ensure smooth communication and collaboration in all technical and community-based activities.

•    Contributing to assessments, surveys, studies or evaluations required for the project, including those focused on economic and environmental sustainability and local development needs.

•    Supporting in identifying performance objectives and contributing to follow-up and quality improvement actions for the project team.

•    Supporting in collecting information on project progress, challenges and lessons learned—especially related to sustainability, community engagement and business development—to support adaptive planning.




Administrative and Logistics Support

•    Supporting logistics arrangements for project activities, including meetings, trainings, field missions and events.

•    Providing accurate data and documentation required for allowances, procurement steps, material distribution or service delivery.

•    Preparing receipts, documentation and clearance forms as required, ensuring proper authorization from the Project Manager.

•    Supporting monthly planning and basic financial inputs for the Project Manager when applicable.

•    Ensuring that documents, attendance lists, permits and administrative files related to the Kijani Pemba Project are complete and properly archived using donor tools, partner tools and designated WeWorld online platforms.


Documentation, Monitoring and Reporting

•    Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual updates to be shared with the Project Manager.

•    Collaborating, in monitoring and evaluating activities under the Kijani Pemba Project.

•    Supporting in data collection, using donor tools, partner tools and designated WeWorld online platforms.

•    Supporting the Project manager in preparing reports, contributing findings, progress updates and lessons learned.

•    Maintaining an organized digital and physical archive of all documentation related to the project.

•    Preparing short reports, notes, summaries or field updates for internal and external use as requested.


The duties and responsibilities set forth above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to perform additional duties requested by the Line Manager.

Provide a proper handover before the end of the assignment.

Job Specifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Knowledge

•    Master’s degree in social sciences, International Cooperation, Development Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Rights or similar sectors.

•    Fluency in English is mandatory.


Professional experience

•    At least 1 years’ relevant working experience in humanitarian or development settings.

•    Experience collaborating with local authorities and international NGOs.


Skills and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal relationships and demonstrated ability to leverage business networks and partnerships for continued growth.

• Good communication and leadership skills.

• Ability to perform under stress conditions.

• Ability to work autonomously and in problems prevention/resolution.

•Ability to work in remote areas and interact with diverse stakeholders.

•Ability to collect field data and report on activities.


DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

•    Basic understanding of WASH principles (safe water, sanitation, hygiene practices, community health).

• Basic knowledge of MEAL tools.

• Previous volunteering or professional experience in Tanzania and/or within the Pemba Island context would be considered an asset.

• Knowledge of Kiswahili would be considered an asset.

• Knowledge of Italian would be considered an asset.

Type of contract: a first 6 (six) months contract subject to verification (achievement of specific objectives) renewable depending on budget availability

Economic conditions: to be defined according to WeWorld Expatriates Compensation Policy: Base Salary (seniority/role held) + Contributions (role complex and hardship based on place of work)

Annual leave: 2,5 days/month (working days)

Flight ticket: One round-trip flight every 12 months of contract
