About this position
We are looking for an innovative, impact driven and experienced Specialist in Sustainable Finance. As a Specialist in Sustainable Finance, you will provide technical leadership and implementation support for innovative financial instruments, with a focus on investment grants, guarantees, and sustainability-linked financing instruments, particularly in the areas of natural capital, climate resiliency, financial institutions, and institutional strengthening of executors.
You will work in the Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division part of the Institutions for Development Department (IFD/CMF). This team is responsible for strengthening the capacity of the public financial sector to mobilize resources and catalyze capital for development. We focus on effective capital market development and innovative financial structuring and solutions to facilitate private investment and ensure inclusive and sustainable development.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate and oversee technical and analytical work related to the sustainable finance portfolio, with a focus on sustainability-linked financing, nature-based solutions, and innovative financial instruments for financial institutions and government ministries.
- Oversee the monitoring, tracking, and reporting of project commitments, results, and fiduciary requirements associated with donor-funded operations, ensuring compliance with agreed deliverables, timelines, and performance indicators.
- Lead and support the design of guarantees and non-lending instruments with the participation of donor resources. This includes developing diagnostics, results frameworks, economic analyses, and ensuring alignment with IDB and country development priorities.
- Contribute to the supervision of ongoing operations in sustainability-linked and nature-based finance, ensuring timely achievement of project milestones, implementation of activities, and application of monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Promote collaboration with other divisions and departments across the IDB Group to advance strategic initiatives supported by donor funds and strengthen blended finance capabilities.
- Organize and coordinate knowledge dissemination activities such as policy dialogues, internal seminars, and stakeholder engagement events focused on innovative financing mechanisms. Actively participate in institutional working groups, task forces, and corporate initiatives related to sustainable finance.
What you'll need
• Education: Master's degree in Economics, Finance, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role, with strong quantitative and financial modeling skills.
• Experience: At least 4 years of progressive experience in structured sustainable finance, designing and implementing financial guarantees and risk-mitigation products to mobilize private capital and enhance development impact.
• Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
Requirements
• Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Uruguay or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Uruguay.
• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
• National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
