Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. The main documents outlining the mandate of the organization are the Vancouver Declaration on Human Settlements, the Habitat Agenda, the Istanbul Declaration on Human Settlements, the Declaration on Cities and Other Human Settlements in the New Millennium, and UN General Assembly Resolution A/56/206. The project "Supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Spain – Latin America and the Caribbean region” managed by the UN-Habitat Country Office Spain, aims to advance the implementation of the New Urban Agenda through knowledge exchange, advocacy, and strengthened alliances between Spain and Latin America and the Caribbean, while promoting sustainable urban development in Spain. UN-Habitat intends to have an Intern for Programme Management Support to support the delivery of the project activities and reporting. Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, UN-Habitat Country Office Spain who will supervise that the outputs will be delivered accordingly, the duties and responsibilities are: • Support the implementation and follow up on technical activities linked to ongoing projects carried out. • Supports the organization of Experts Groups Meeting and related seminars. • In collaboration with the Communications focal point, supports in the development of content, layout and design of relevant communication material, documents and events. • Supports local logistics during events, workshops and seminars and virtual logistics in case of webinars. • Assists in the preparation and review of activities reports, documents and proposals. • Assists in the translation of documents, reports, brochures and project proposals. • Assists in the preparation of presentations, brochures and talking points for events. • Undertakes research as required regarding the different topics addressed in the ongoing projects, related to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Spain and the localization of the 2030 Agenda. • Supports the development and follow up on agreements with key institutional partners. • Participates in team coordination meetings, as well as any other meeting as required. • Assists in the activities that support the ongoing work of UN-Habitat Country Office Spain. • Other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Studies in architecture, urbanism, social sciences, international relations or related fields are required. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Fluency in oral and written Spanish and English is required. Graphic design skills are required for this position. Writing skills are required for this position. Knowledge in computer software (such us InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or similar software applications) is desirable for this position.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
