2026 Graduate Internship Programme - Process Optimisation

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is looking for recent graduates to join our 2026 Graduate Internship Programme. This programme will allow you to use the knowledge you gained during your studies in a professional environment. Joining us is not just about launching your international career; it is about doing meaningful work for the public good and serving the global community.

Programme duration: 7 – 11 months
Programme location: Basel, Switzerland
Programme start date: From May 2026 onwards

Purpose of the role:

As the Centre of Excellence for Process optimisation is being set up, the Graduate supports the team in reviewing processes, automating workflows, and assisting in the implementation of new technologies to make processes less risky and more efficient.

The ideal candidate should have strong analytical and communication skills, an innovative mindset to challenge the status quo and come up with ideas to work differently. Ideally some background in IT automation and/or practical use of AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Collaborate with teams to address business challenges and develop tools to track process optimisation progress.
  • Process Optimisation: Organise workshops, document current workflows, and contribute to design improved processes using Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Innovation: Automate workflows and explore AI solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Change Management: Create communication and training materials to support stakeholder adoption of new tools and processes.

Requirements:

  • Education: Recent graduate with an interest in process optimisation, innovation, and change management.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, proactive mindset, and ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma, design thinking, workflow automation or AI technologies, and experience with financial services are a plus but not mandatory.

What we offer:

We offer a 7-month contract with a monthly allowance of 3800 CHF plus health and accident insurance coverage for the duration of the contract. Additional benefits depend on your principal domicile.
