2026 Graduate Internship Programme - Junior Data and Analytics Engineer

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is looking for recent graduates to join our 2026 Graduate Internship Programme. This programme will allow you to use the knowledge you gained during your studies in a professional environment. Programme duration: 7 – 11 months
Programme location: Basel, Switzerland
Programme start date: From May 2026 onwards

Purpose of the role:

The mission of the BIS is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.

The MED IT team plays a pivotal role in supporting this mission by collecting and analyzing an extensive range of data and statistics related to global financial systems and micro-economic activities. Through this work, we produce a diverse array of insights that are highly valued and utilized by central banks, financial regulatory institutions, and academic researchers worldwide. Notably, some of the data sets we work with, as well as the innovative methods we use to integrate them, are exclusive to our organization. In your role, you will support with collecting a wider variety of data and harness new technology to generate more powerful insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Monetary and Economic Department (MED) in the effective provisioning, development and use of business applications and contributing to defining and implementing the IT strategy and architecture for MED statistical applications.

  • Creating and maintaining data pipelines and related IT architecture.

  • Implementing analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide business insight.

  • Utilizing AI methodologies to streamline, automate, and enhance business operations and processes.

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in computer science, or another IT- related technical field, with knowledge or experience in software development, data engineering, data analytics or any similar subject.

  • Programming skills (such as Python, C# .NET, Java).

  • Knowledge and experience in working with SQL or other databases.

  • Strong analytical skills and passion for solving data challenges.

What do we offer:

We offer an 11-month contract with a monthly allowance of 3800 CHF plus health and accident insurance coverage for the duration of the contract.
