Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City, within the Information Centres Service (ICS) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNIC is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) and UNIC Mexico City is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. It is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by communicating the work of the UN to a local audience in local languages; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the peoples it serves. In addition, UNICs lead the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and Resident Coordination Office (RCO) communications and advocacy functions. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). The internship is UNPAID and in-person. The intern must cover full-time working hours, for up to a maximum of 6 months - 35 hours per week. With limits of delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for one or more of the following duties: - Support the communications activities of the UNIC Mexico; - Assist with research, media outreach and draft communications products; - Assist in outreach efforts to a variety of publics, as well as the production of information and communications products and services; - Support the strategic communication of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean; Assist in the coordination of the communication activities of the UN System agencies in Mexico, through the Communication Group; - Update UNIC Mexico's website and contribute to the production of multimedia assets for web and social media accounts; - Assist with drafting and editing written, audiovisual and digital content, including for web, social media and print as needed in Spanish and other languages; - Apply programming skills to develop AR or VR products is desirable; - Knowledge of Boolean queries and media/social media listening tools and analytics is desirable; - Assist in the daily liaison with civil society, academia, NGOs in Mexico, Cuba and The Dominican Republic; - Assist in preparing the organization of events; - Collaborate with the Public and Private Sector in organizing activities on UN issues of concern; - Cooperate with civil society on information issues, promote UN education and youth participation; - Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and Spanish are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written Spanish is required. Fluency in English is desirable.
