UNICEF Dominican Republic is seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented People & Culture Assistant (G‑5) to provide high‑quality administrative, procedural and operational support across a wide range of HR functions. Under the guidance of the People & Culture Officer, this role Assistant will contribute to efficient delivery of recruitment and placement processes, administration of entitlements, staff data management, learning and organizational culture initiatives, and general HR operations — ensuring timely, accurate and client‑focused service in line with UNICEF rules and regulations. The ideal candidate is an organized and service‑oriented team player, capable of maintaining confidentiality, handling multiple priorities, and supporting colleagues with empathy, tact and professionalism. How can you make a difference? 

As Human Resources Assistant (G‑5), you will keep our people operations running with precision, empathy and speed — so programmes can focus on delivering results for children. Under the guidance of the HR Officer you will be a trusted first point of contact for staff and candidates, combining sense of urgency, genuine care for others, and operational agility to provide timely, accurate and confidential HR support across the employee lifecycle.

In this role you will:

  • Accelerate recruitment & placement: Post and circulate internal vacancies, with focus on individual consultancy opportunities; coordinate candidate communications, arrange assessments/reference checks, and track each step through to offer—anticipating bottlenecks and keeping hiring teams and applicants informed with clear, empathetic updates.
  • Ensure accurate and reliable HR transactions: Initiate and verify personnel actions and entitlements, maintain up‑to‑date digital records, and safeguard data integrity—bringing attention to detail to every action you record.  
  • Support learning and performance cycles: Help organize trainings and workshops, process vendor and administrative requirements, and track performance milestones to support timely, smooth completion.
  • Support career development and culture initiatives: Coordinate learning activities, recognition efforts, wellness actions, and culture‑building initiatives—approaching each interaction with empathy, discretion, and genuine care for staff well‑being.
  • Deliver service with care: Handle queries with high sensitivity, discretion and respect—offering clear guidance on policies and next steps, and escalating complex cases appropriately.
  • Drive continuous improvement: Use HR systems and digital tools confidently, adapt quickly to new processes, and propose small fixes that remove friction for colleagues—demonstrating learning agility in a fast‑moving environment.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education:Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in Human Resources, Organizational or Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Labor or Employee Relations, or related fields.
  • Work Experience: At least 5 years of progressive relevant work experience in Human Resources or related is required.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish is required.  Proficient level of English is required, but complete fluency is preferred.

Desirables:

  • Strong technical proficiency, including advanced Excel skills (formulas, data validation, basic analysis), solid command of Microsoft Office 365 tools (Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint), and the ability to work effectively with digital collaboration platforms.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency, attention to detail and a service-oriented approach and clear communication, when handling multiple requests and sensitive information.
  • Strong learning and operational agility in evolving contexts.
  • Prior experience working within the UN system—or in similarly complex, multicultural international organizations—.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
