Job Description
Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Director of Department of Media and Communications based in Headquarters (HQ) in Geneva and the direct supervision of the Head of Editorial based in HQ, and the administrative supervision of the Head of Online Communications Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for the Organization’s extensive and fast growing global social media platforms and activities.
The Online Communications Unit (OCU), the Manila-based branch of the Department of Media and Communications in HQ, focuses on several key areas of work. These include bringing expertise and agility to manage the digital environment effectively, ensuring IOM's online presence is a strategic priority, maintaining consistency in online brand representation, guiding and empowering colleagues through web management training, and being dedicated to swift and effective responses to web-based demands, efficiently meeting various web-related needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop high-impact social media content, including graphics, videos, and other multimedia formats that effectively informs and engages external audiences and supports media and advocacy campaigns.
- Develop an IOM social media strategy in collaboration with the Editorial Unit at HQ.
- Compile IOM in the News, as well as other related migration news using the Meltwater clippings service and Google Alerts for publication in the daily Global Newsroom Briefings
- Collect and analyze metrics for all IOM social media platforms to gauge reach, engagement and other performance measures for social media posts, accounts and campaigns, helping to inform results-based decision making and drive the effective use of resources.
- Based on an analysis of social data/metrics, insights and best practices, recommend to the Editorial Unit adjustments and improvements to IOM’s social media outputs.
- Create and maintain social media calendars and schedules for all IOM global social media channels.
- Monitor and in consultation with the Editorial Unit moderate comments on social media posts, intervening as appropriate to answer questions and guide the conversation.
- Train colleagues to use social media effectively, including mission or project focal points and field-based media colleagues.
- Advise and assist IOM Country Offices and Project Managers to set up social media accounts and campaigns.
- Assist in the gathering of fresh content from the field.
- Represent IOM at various local, regional and international social media events, conferences, workshops and training.
- Bolster IOM’s online social networking presence by actively engaging with current followers and supporters.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- University degree in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Social Media or any related field from
an accredited academic institution with four (4) years of relevant experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum four years of demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms including Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, Linked-In, Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo and others. - Experience working in a multi-cultural office environment.
SKILLS
- Strong editorial judgement, including ethical and political awareness.
- Sophisticated understanding of multimedia content, including how it can best be produced, packaged, published and shared on websites, on social media and with news organizations.
- Managing social media scheduling tools.
- Ability to edit video in formats suitable for social media.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, Windows, Office, and Outlook, and desktop software applications.
- Excellent organization and analytical skills, attention to details, and ability to work with
minimum supervision
