Job Description
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office and the direct supervision of the Installation of the Emergency Communications Network( IECN) Project Manager in Majuro, the IECN Project Assistant in Majuro will support installation of HF/VHF radios, repeater stations, masts, atoll solar power supply, siren and flashing light alert system in the targeted municipalities under Installation of Emergency Communications Network project in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
The IOM IECN project will contribute to enhancing the overall capacity of the communities and governments of RMI to be better prepared for, and more resilient to hazard events and disasters. The project will be achieved by supporting communities to have increased capacity to receive and relay Emergency Communications (EC) in accordance with the EC Roadmap.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team that provides support at both community and governmental level regarding DRR through Emergency Communications, protecting well-being of those affected by climate change as well as natural disasters and support preparedness efforts.
Responsibilities
Radio Communications Systems Support
- Assist in the installation, configuration, programming, and testing of HF and VHF radio communication systems, including base stations, repeaters, and mobile units across field and island locations.
- Support routine inspections, signal testing, and preventive maintenance to ensure reliable radio network performance.
Antenna Installation and Infrastructure Support
- Assist with installation and mounting of antennas on masts, towers, or designated structures in accordance with safety and technical procedures.
- Support the installation and routing of coaxial cables, connectors, grounding systems, and lightning protection equipment.
Solar and DC Power Systems Installation
- Assist with the installation of solar photovoltaic panels, charge controllers, and battery systems supporting communications infrastructure.
- Support safe wiring and electrical connections between solar panels, controllers, batteries, and radio equipment.
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Support first-level troubleshooting of radio communication equipment and solar power systems under technical supervision.
- Assist in repairing or replacing faulty components and identifying system faults or signal disruptions.
Safety Compliance and Risk Mitigation
- Ensure all activities comply with IOM safety standards, electrical safety procedures, and grounding protocols.
- Follow safety procedures during field installations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain records of equipment installations, maintenance activities, and technical interventions.
- Assist in maintaining updated inventories of communications equipment, solar components, and spare parts.
Operational and Logistical Support
- Provide technical support during field deployments and communications infrastructure setup.
- Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams to ensure availability of equipment, materials, and spare parts.
Qualifications
School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant experience in Electrical, Electronics, Telecomunications, ICT, or a related field is a strong advantage
