Project Context and Scope

Health Promotion Project ''Your Health is in Your Hands''

Many people with a migrant background in Slovakia lack practical knowledge about how to access the healthcare system, including how to use preventive services such as cancer screening. This information gap can have a particularly negative impact on the health of women and middle aged adults, as those who are not included in preventive care are more likely to miss early detection opportunities, experience delayed diagnoses, and face more serious health complications as a result.

 Target Group: Third Country Nationals (TCNs) residing in Slovakia, with a focus on women.


 
Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing

 

Migration Health Department (MHD)

Under the overall supervision of the IOM Bratislava MHD Contact Point, the Consultant shall provide technical and operational support to the implementation of the Your Health is in Your Hands project.

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract

Category B Consultant is hired to deliver services as follows:

  1. Contribute to development of Information Materials

    • Contribute to the preparation of content for informational seminars and communication on health promotion and wellbeing.

  2. Awareness Raising and Outreach

    • Deliver offline and online informational seminars for TCNs on:

      • Access to healthcare services for foreigners in Slovakia

      • Oncological prevention and screening programs 

      • Women’s reproductive health and oncological prevention

      • Nutrition and lifestyle as determinants of health

  3. Facilitation of Access to Services

    • Provide information and referrals to available health and social service providers.

    • Support beneficiaries in navigating healthcare pathways and understanding their rights and entitlements.

    • Counselling on how to register with a general practitioner and specialists, understand eligibility and entitlements, 

    • Guidance on women specific healthcare services, including awareness on prevention measures, available cancer screening programs, HPV testing and vaccination, and other essential preventive services. 

    • Provide individual counselling with identified health or social needs, both online and in person.

    • Maintain accurate records, referrals, and follow up actions.

  4. Reporting and Coordination

    • Contribute to monitoring, documentation, and reporting requirements.

    • Coordinate with IOM staff, interpreters, service providers, non-profit organizations and relevant stakeholders as needed.

Performance indicators for the evaluation of result
 

  • Deliverables are completed according to shared instructions (completion of information materials, organization of events in community centers and partner networks, online webinars).

  • Time sheets per worked hours submitted.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

Preferably a degree from an accredited institution in Social Sciences, Human Health, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

Experience

Experience in health promotion and outreach, workshops, community engagement activities, ideally with migrant population or other vulnerable populations. Interest in migrant protection and inclusion. Understands vulnerability/protection principles and can support healthcare system navigation, including local health entitlements, referral pathways, and basic public-health literacy.

Skills

Strong communication, organization, people-centered presenting skills; able to work independently, take initiative, and operate effectively in multicultural environments.
Computer literacy: MS Office (intermediate), Power Point, familiarity with Zoom and webinar platforms 
 

Languages

For this consultancy, fluency in English and Slovak is required. Proficiency in at least one of the following is an advantage: Ukrainian, Russian. Any other IOM official language (Spanish, French) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Notes

This position is open in Bratislava and Kosice.

IOM covers Consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the consultancy. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
