BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Within the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (DMPI), the Migration Health Division (MHD), has the institutional responsibility to oversee, support and coordinate IOM’s provision of migration health services globally.
As a key component of this since the Organization’s inception, the Health Assessment Programme (HAP) has delivered an array of medical services along regular pathways at the request of destination country governments. These services include a range of procedures such as screening, diagnostics, treatment, preventive measures, and health-related travel assistance, and are offered to migrants to facilitate resettlement, international employment, education, acquisition of temporary or permanent visas, participation in specific migrant assistance programmes, or during post-emergency relocation and repatriation efforts.
SUPERVISION
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Global Health Assessment) and direct supervision of the Migration Health Officer (Education and Communication), the Intern – Health Assessment Programmes will assist in HAP Programme work in collaboration with other colleagues in IOM Headquarters and the Manila Global Shared Services Centre.
Responsibilities
The Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:
Support knowledge management activities, including organizing content on SharePoint and internal Migration Health platforms.
Track outdated or inconsistent information on IOM Migration Health and Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) websites and pages, compile findings, and follow up with relevant focal points to support timely updates.
Support the compilation of client feedback, survey inputs, and basic analytics related to Information, Communication and Education (IEC)[AS1][NW2] and HAP communications.
Support the creation of a master sheet with predefined prompts for tracking online third-party community feedback on Migration Health Assessment Centres (MHAC) through the Meltwater Explore tool.
Support HAP quality assurance (QA) initiatives, by assisting in the review of MHAC assessment forms and related tools, and assisting with the coordination and documentation of virtual QA visits to selected MHACs.
- Assist in compiling and summarizing incident management status, focusing on administrative follow up when needed.
- Assist with proposal development tasks (e.g., Modular Tuberculosis (TB)proposal by gathering inputs and supporting preparatory work.
- Follow up with country and regional offices on information requests, inputs, and action points, and track responses to support timely implementation of HAP activities.
Assist in keeping track of Migration Health Division (MHD) programming communication priorities and cross divisional requests from other administrative divisions like translation, procurement, ICT etc.
Provide general administrative and coordination support, including meeting notes, follow up tracking and document formatting.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Strengthen knowledge management and information organization skills by helping manage content on SharePoint and other similar platforms.
Improve analytical and monitoring skills by compiling client feedback and survey inputs.
Enhance coordination and administrative support skills by following up with country and regional offices, tracking action points and responses, and supporting meetings.
Develop writing, reporting, and document preparation skills by contributing to summaries, proposal inputs, meeting notes, and other such materials.
TRAINING COMPONENTS AND LEARNING ELEMENTS
1. The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
2. Gain experience in organization, management, and international cooperation activities.
3.Gain a better understanding of IOM’s work, as an intergovernmental organization in the field of Migration, and work on formulating and editing institutional strategies, priorities, and work plans.
4. The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM personnel.
5. The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM Missions.
Qualifications
Education
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in International Studies, Public or Global Health, Health Promotion or a related field from an accredited institution; or,
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or Graduated within the last 12 months with a Bachelor's degree or higher in International Studies, Public or Global Health, Health Promotion or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience
Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook etc.), including SharePoint;
Knowledge of spreadsheet and data analysis; and, design software like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop;
Experience working on health and migration issues an advantage; experience working with health data desirable;
Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely, proven skills in writing summary documents and editing reports, project documents and proposals, is desirable.
Skills
Demonstrated organizational skills;
Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
Practical experience of how-to multi-task, prioritize and work independently.
Languages
IOM's official languages are English, French and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.
For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.

Notes
Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the internship. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
