We strive to promote a nuanced understanding of the region's complexities, enabling a move from reactive to proactive strategies in dealing with key challenges like Russia's foreign policy and the future of regional security.

Where We Work

Our work on this region encompasses internal political dynamics, security developments, and the countries' relationships with major global powers and the European Union.

Key Impact

SCEEUS's impact is centered on generating informed policy and public discourse on a strategically vital region:

  • Informing Policy: Our policy-relevant analyses are frequently used to shape Swedish and European approaches to the region, including strategies regarding the war in Ukraine, NATO cooperation, and support for democratic processes in countries like Moldova and Georgia.

  • Media and Public Discourse: SCEEUS experts are a constant presence in international and Swedish media (e.g., Sveriges Radio, Dagens Nyheter), acting as trusted sources to interpret complex events for the public and enhance national resilience through knowledge.
