Individual Consultant to Translate the Contextualized Training Package on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) for Gender-Based Violence Service Providers in Kenya will work under the supervision of the GBV/Gender Advisor, with support from the GBV/Gender Programme Analyst, and the TFGBV Programme Analyst to maintain consistency and quality and submit a translated version of the Kenya TFGBV Training Package and TFGBV Lexicon in Kiswahili.
How you can make a difference:
UNFPA is the lead United Nations agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is intended, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. The UNFPA Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 articulates the organization’s response to a complex global environment, providing a roadmap for resilience and renewal. It is designed to accelerate the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This mandate is pursued through a focus on four interconnected outcomes: ending the unmet need for family planning; ending preventable maternal deaths; ending gender-based violence and harmful practices; and adapting to demographic change through evidence and rights-based policies.
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.
UNFPA is seeking candidates who transform, inspire, and deliver high-impact and sustained results and ensure effective external relations, communications, and partnership-building and resource mobilization in a rapidly changing development and funding landscape. We need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them, and who commit to delivering excellence in programme results.
Job Purpose:
UNFPA is the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency committed to improving lives in 150 countries and territories worldwide. We work with governments and through partnerships with other United Nations agencies, civil society, regional economic communities, and the private sector to ensure that no one is left behind.
Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the Making All Spaces Safe (MASS) global programme is being implemented at the global level and in Benin and Kenya between March 2024 and March 2027. The aim of the programme is to increase the benefits of technology, free from gender-based violence and discrimination, for women and girls in all their diversity. To achieve this goal, the programme works across three main pillars: response, prevention, and law and policy, as well as through cross-cutting research and convening efforts. MASS is one of the first global programmes to address the emerging issue of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).
The MASS Programme's Prevention Pillar (Pillar I) focuses on proactive measures to mitigate and prevent TFGBV. This involves designing safer technology and enhancing digital literacy to create a safer online environment for all users, closing the gender digital divide, and addressing harmful social and gender norms. Further, the Response Pillar (Pillar II) seeks to support TFGBV survivors in Kenya by providing comprehensive and coordinated assistance, integrated within existing GBV response programs. This support encompasses survivor safety, evidence preservation, and facilitated access to essential services, including those offered by GBV service providers.
To build and entrench foundational capacity amongst Kenyan GBV service providers on TFGBV, the MASS programme has contextualized the UNFPA Global TFGBV Training Package (Training Package), which will be used to facilitate training workshops and capacity-building sessions for GBV service providers in key sectors in Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nairobi counties. These sectors include, but are not limited to, healthcare, social services, education, justice, law enforcement, psychosocial services, and ICT/technical security.
To ensure contextual relevance, the consultant will provide high-quality services to translate six mandatory modules in the contextualised Training Package from English to Kiswahili, including the TFGBV Lexicon. The consultant will work under the supervision of the GBV/Gender Advisor, with support from the GBV/Gender Programme Analyst, and the TFGBV Programme Analyst to maintain consistency and quality and submit a translated version of the Kenya TFGBV Training Package and TFGBV Lexicon in Kiswahili.
