To help raise more funds and revenue, the Regional Support Center, Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is seeking to hire a consultant that will conduct research on strategic engagement of foundations, philanthropic intermediaries, high net worth individuals/ philanthropists, and private sector events in Asia. Results aim to be both informative about the current landscape and key actors and also provide recommendations on strategic engagement with these entities to advance the regional partnerships towards greater revenue attainment.

How can you make a difference? 

To help raise more funds and revenue, the Regional Support Center, Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office (EAPRO) is seeking to hire a consultant that will conduct research on strategic engagement of foundations, philanthropic intermediaries, high net worth individuals/ philanthropists, and private sector events in Asia. Results aim to be both informative about the current landscape and key actors and also provide recommendations on strategic engagement with these entities to advance the regional partnerships towards greater revenue attainment.

Work assignment (remote/ home-based modality, not office-based):

1. Assignment: Analysis to support Country Offices in generating revenue:

  • Based on country office needs, create tailored research which will identify new foundations and philanthropic prospects and strengthen the existing pipeline.
  • Provide comprehensive strategy recommendation for high-value prospects
  • Identify and evaluate local private sector events and provide strategic preparation support for each event
  • Support the evaluation of the opportunity for giving circles and support the design and set-up of those in appropriate markets.
  • Support in identifying best practice for tracking KPIs for major donors and foundation

2. Assignment: Analysis of regional diaspora in support of Country Offices in generating revenue.

  • Based on country input and guidance, research country office diaspora across the region, particularly those that are concentrated in Singapore. Prioritize Chinese and Indian high net worth diaspora in the region. For the Chinese diaspora, the goal is to support the “China for the World” strategy to leverage funds from Chinese donors to other countries.
  • Provide recommendations for a regional diaspora strategy including internal crediting resolution.
  • Explore, map and conduct research about associations and diaspora organization such as Teochew community in Southeast Asia, where diaspora convene to maximize greater fundraising from diaspora networks.
  • Conduct background research for individuals and foundations inclusive of background, history of philanthropic giving, and key connections to identify and prioritize qualified prospects that fit within the diaspora profile.
  • Help foster inter-connections among country offices where diaspora communities reside and recommend how they could support fundraising in multiple countries in Asia.
  • Create engagement recommendations for each of the top prospects with the goal of conversion to partners.

3. Assignment: Analysis on prominent regional private sector events:

  • Research key regional events evaluating their potential value for UNICEF
  • Present a comprehensive analysis of key events with recommendations for types of engagements
  • Provide strategic preparation for events including preparation of attendee background research, preparation for speaking roles, and guidance for hosting closed-door events on the sidelines of regional events

4. Assignment: Provide support in strengthening communication materials for positioning UNICEF as a partner of choice:

  • Develop regionally appropriate guidance for speaking and engaging in private sector spaces
  • Develop a library of case studies and examples that are appropriate for private sector audiences
  • Develop regionally appropriate guidance of messaging that should be used to announce partnerships at different levels

5. Assignment: Evaluate the current regional partnership recognition framework and provide recommendations for strengthening it

  • Consult with Philanthropy Officers on their current use of the framework
  • Collect and evaluate feedback on how it’s been useful and where it can be improved
  • Prepare recommendations for improving the recognition framework
  • Update the framework based on recommendation

6. Assignment: Provide strategic evaluation and support to advance relationships with intermediaries such as wealth advisors, donor advised funds (DAFs), family offices and philanthropic vehicles for giving

  • Provide individualized support to Country Offices that are in an advanced stage of working with intermediaries by providing an analysis on the intermediary and recommendations of turning engagements into revenue.
  • Provide comprehensive recommendations for engaging with intermediaries that strengthen the partnership.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment on significant associations, conferences, meetings, webinars, events that wealth advisors attend and participate in so UNICEF can participate in key functions as well, as relevant.

7. Assignment: Provide strategic support in curating capacity building workshops to increase income generation for country offices

  • Support the development and delivery of a two-day regional philanthropy workshop
  • Support of the development and delivery of a one-day regional integrated workshop for high value partnerships
  • Regional training on deploying the 5 I’s strategy in Asia with semi-institutional donors.

Duration of Contract:   15 December 2025 – 28 Feb 2027 (full-time for 12 months)

Duty Travel: Home based with calls/ virtual meetings with relevant offices with one 5-day trip to Bangkok to present research and strategic recommendations to Regional and Country Offices.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Education: Advanced university degree in Business, Finance, Social Sciences or equivalent professional work experience in the area of fundraising, finance industry, non-profit philanthropy. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience: Experience in major donor fundraising and working with philanthropic intermediaries or financial institutions that manage individual philanthropic wealth. Minimum six years of progressively responsible and relevant professional international work experience in business, finance, social sciences, non-profit organization or philanthropy fundraising. Or strong demonstration of understanding philanthropy landscape of Asia Familiarity with UNICEF’s mandate, programs, and operations is an advantage. Prior experience working with or for UNICEF or a UN agency is considered a strong asset.

Language Requirements: Fluency in verbal and written English is required for this position. Competency in reading Mandarin or an Asian language is beneficial for research purposes but not required
