This role is being established to increase the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit, specifically to enhance the actionability of research and insights. The focus will be on supporting research related to mass and general population audiences. Four key areas have been identified: 1. Global Insights Planning: Support the creation of the Audience Insights Ecosystem by bringing together 4 to 7 core pilot markets. Responsibilities include arranging 2 kickoff meetings, organizing the listening tours (1 for each pilot market, consisting of 7 to 15 interviews per market), and drafting insights plans for each pilot market in partnership with, and with support from, the Audience and Market Insights team, including the High-Value Audience (HVA) Manager, Mass Manager, and Chief of Audience and Market Insights. 2. Supporting the Actionability of the Brand Barometer: Contribute to research planning (market selection, questionnaire amendments, vendor liaison), insights identification (lead analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and facilitation of insights-to-action sessions. This will be done under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Audience and Market Insights Team. 3. Individual Giving Insights Strategy: Lead the inaugural listening tour and develop an insights plan to support the Individual Giving team in PFP with relevant audience insight. Manage select relevant projects (1 or 2), including methodology selection, market selection, and vendor liaison (if relevant). Responsibilities also include insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups) and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Audience and Market Insights team.

How can you make a difference? 

SCOPE OF WORK:

Under the supervision of the High-Value Insights Manager, the Senior Insights Strategy for Mass Audiences Consultant will be responsible for:

1. Working with the vendors identified for the research projects described above to ensure research is executed to the appropriate standard and quality.

2. Supporting the Audience and Market Insights Team in working sessions with income channel teams or markets, both globally and regionally.

3. Assisting the Audience and Market Insights Team in analysis and presentation creation related to the areas described above. High-quality analysis and an engaging insights narrative are expected to resonate with a diverse group of stakeholders who may not be familiar with this type of information.

4. Applying a deep and sophisticated understanding of how to support the application of insights in a multifaceted, global organization to generate meaningful action.

5. Supporting the Audience and Market Insights Team in leveraging the information gathered from the areas described above.

6. Coaching and upskilling interns and other junior staff to enable them to support key analyses and simple tasks.

WORK ASSIGNMENTS:

DELIVERABLES:

The consultant will submit monthly deliverables throughout the contract period and payments will be processed at the end of each month, upon acceptance of deliverables by the supervisor.

Deliverable 1: Ongoing from 1 December 2025 to 31 May 2026

Support the creation of the Audience Insights Ecosystem by bringing together 4 to 7 core pilot markets, arranging 2 kickoff meetings, organizing listening tours (1 for each pilot market, consisting of 7 to 15 interviews per market), and drafting insights plans for each pilot market in partnership with, and with support from, the Audience and Market Insights team, including the High-Value Audience Manager, Mass Manager, and Chief of Audience and Market Insights.

KPIs:

  • Support the completion of all pilot market listening tours.
  • Contribute to the drafting of insights plans for each pilot market.

(Both KPIs will be achieved in partnership with the Audience and Market Insights team, including the High-Value Audience Manager, Mass Manager, and Chief of Audience and Market Insights).

Deliverable 2: Ongoing from 1 December 2025 to 31 May 2026

Contribute to research execution (including market selection, questionnaire amendments, and vendor liaison), insights identification (lead analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insights-to-action facilitation (organization, preparation, and facilitation of working sessions with end users of the research). This will be done under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Audience and Market Insights Team.

KPIs:

  • Produce materials for and conduct 1 working session with participating markets.
  • Deliver 1 implications grid with clear, actionable recommendations for each team.
  • Validate and customize research findings in the Brand Barometer for local market needs, leveraging and incorporating secondary research.

Deliverable 3: Ongoing from 1 December 2025 to 31 May 2026.

Lead the inaugural listening tour and develop an insights plan to support the Individual Giving team in PFP with relevant audience insights. Manage select projects (1 or 2), including methodology selection, market selection, vendor liaison (if relevant), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops, as relevant). This will be done under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Audience and Market Insights team.

KPIs:

  • Completion of the listening tour with 10 to 20 members of the PFP Individual Giving team or relevant members of national committee and country office Individual Giving team.
  • Drafting of the insights plan for the PFP Individual Giving team.
  • Potential management of 1 additional project, including methodology selection, market selection, vendor liaison (if relevant), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insight asset development (presentations, working sessions, and workshops as relevant).

Travel:

  • The consultant will be required to make 1 trip during assignment to contribute to planning and strategy sessions, which will be paid by UNICEF.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

Education:

  • A first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher), in cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in audience research, insights, and strategy with a focus on reputation and perception research.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and translating data into actionable insights.
  • Deep understanding of how to apply insights in a multifaceted, global organization to drive meaningful action.
  • Proven experience in navigating multi-stakeholder environments and achieving alignment and consensus.
  • Strong command of quantitative, qualitative, and secondary research methodologies, with full research method neutrality.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
