Project Context and Scope

 
Transhumance is a crucial form of human mobility in West and Central Africa, involving 20 million people and 70% of the region's livestock. This consultancy will explore Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to enhance climate resilience and social cohesion under the Climate Change, Migration and Data (CCMD) programme, implemented in partnership with IUCN and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The consultant will work remotely and coordinate virtually with stakeholders across West and Central Africa.

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract

 
Category B Consultants: Tangible and measurable outputs of the work assignment (with realistic delivery dates)
Category B Consultant hired to deliver a report on a three-instalment payment basis: 
1.    First Deliverable (30%) - 20 days after signing the contract
•    Development of a research project (clearly defined objectives and research questions, etc.).
•    Inception report, including refined research questions, methodology, list of identified key informants, a draft bibliography, and a detailed work plan for the study.
2.    Second Deliverable (50%) – 75 days after signing the contract
•    Analytical report on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and pastoral mobility.
•    Policy briefs with strategic recommendations.
•    Guidance notes for practitioners on co-designing, implementing, and monitoring NbS interventions in pastoral mobility contexts.
•    Summary note of the study findings to facilitate dissemination.
3.    Third Deliverable (20%) – 90 days after signing the contract
•    Presentation of findings to stakeholders.

Timely delivery of all outputs, quality and relevance of analysis, stakeholder engagement and satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education

Expertise in climate mobility, pastoralism, and Nature-based Solutions. Experience in research and policy analysis in West and Central Africa

 
Languages
 
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
