Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position. 
 
Context
Under the overall supervision of the AVRR National Project Officer and the direct supervision of the Project Associate (Open Center Focal Point), the successful candidate will support the facility’s day-to-day operations, with a primary focus on premises upkeep, maintenance and minor repairs, as well as transport support using the IOM van, under the programme “Implementation of Assisted Voluntary returns and reintegration measures as well as operation of Accommodation Center for applicants of voluntary return”. 

Responsibilities

Across the functional areas below, tasks are prioritized and assigned periodically among team members based on operational needs, in coordination with the supervisor.

1. Perform regular maintenance and repair-related tasks within the Open Center building and its equipment and fixtures ensure good working condition at all times, including but not limited to: 

  • Installation/extension works, electrical, hydraulic, carpentry, drywall and paint-related works, and repairs of doors, windows, locks, etc.
  • Provide technical specifications for equipment, fixtures and/ or consumables required for maintenance and repair works.
  • In coordination with the supervisor, organize maintenance and repair works with other units/ team members and/ or external contractors.

2. Ensure that the Open Center premises (common spaces, accommodation rooms, storage, etc.) are always clean, well-maintained and in an orderly condition, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinate, as needed, with the cleaning and disinfection service provider(s) to support effective implementation of cleaning and hygiene measures, in line with internal procedures.
  • Clean and prepare linen sets/ beddings;
  • Regularly check for bedbugs and removing them with dry steam machine;
  • Replace mattresses as needed; and,
  • Apply general hygiene and infection prevention measures as required (e.g., disinfection and safe use of any relevant equipment), in line with internal procedures.

3. Provide driving support for the Open Center, using the IOM vehicle (van), including transporting beneficiaries to hospitals and public services, and other operational movements as required, in line with IOM’s fleet management and vehicle use guidelines.

4. Support with distributing food and non-food items to beneficiaries and escorting beneficiaries to designated spaces, as determined by the Protection team.

5. Provide ad hoc administrative support when needed, in cooperation with the Project Support Associates and in coordination with the supervisor, including contributing to inventory-related tasks (e.g., supporting updates of consumables/assets lists and basic stock cross-checks), as needed.

6. Provide regular feedback on work being accomplished to the team supervisor and members and keep them immediately informed of any issues requiring their attention.

7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education
  • Degree from a technical school/college as a Plumber, Electrician, Networks Technician or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or,
  • High school degree/certificate with minimum two years of relevant work experience.
Experience
  • Previous experience and solid technical knowledge in plumbing and electrical systems;
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage;
  • Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience.
Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to communicate with staff, tenants, vendors and other necessary parties;
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment, decision making, communication and problem solving;
  • Ability to participate in physical activities that may include running, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing and lifting;
  • Basic knowledge of standard software applications (MS Office).
Languages
  • For this position, fluency in English and Greek is required (oral and written).
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
